Jasper Høiby's 3Elements

Jasper Høiby's 3Elements Featuring Xavi Torres and Marc Michel

Jasper Høiby's 3Elements is a piano trio project led by one of contemporary jazz's most respected bassists and composers. Høiby is perhaps best known as a co-founder of the influential Phronesis – the group that, from 2005 onwards, redefined expectations of the modern piano trio.

His latest release is Conversations of Hope, the trio's third album, released on Edition Records. With Marc Michel on drums and Xavi Torres on piano, the music moves fast and hits hard – shaped by clear melodic ideas, shifting time signatures and a keen sense of space and dynamics. Marc Michel's precise, driving playing and Torres's harmonically focused piano language dovetail closely with Høiby's bass-led compositions. The result is music that feels urgent, physical and constantly alert to the next change of direction.

"The brilliant bass player, Jasper Høiby, outstanding music" — Gilles Peterson

"Høiby fashions his pieces so the lines between freedom and form are beautifully blurred."

— Mojo
