Cochemea

Multi-instrumentalist and composer Cochemea Gastelum has music in his DNA. With over 25 years on the international scene, he has collaborated with names such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Amy Winehouse, The Roots and Quincy Jones.

His latest album, Vol. 3: Ancestros Futuros on Daptone Records, weaves past, present and future into an evocative whole. Together with a hand-picked band from New York’s funk elite, Cochemea creates an organic, rhythmic and deeply personal sound, recorded live using analogue technology.

His music moves between spiritual jazz, funk and ritual soundscapes in which dreams, memory and origins play a central role. Rooted in the Yaqui tradition, he explores themes of heritage, survival and belonging, creating sonic worlds that feel both ancient and forward-looking.

Live, Cochemea delivers an intense and hypnotic experience in which saxophone, flute and percussion merge into something both earthy and cosmic.
