Anastasía is an artist, singer and musician with roots in Greek folk tradition, country and many other styles. Her unique voice moves and resonates in a way that only the most soulful voices can. It has a power that feels free from genre and time. Through various bands and collaborations, she has established a strong presence and a reputation as perhaps the greatest vocal talent on Gothenburg’s rich and vibrant music scene. At the age of 27, Anastasía is finally taking the plunge and embarking on her solo career with her debut album Göteborg Sjunger Alf – a personal and heartfelt tribute to the legendary songwriter Alf Robertson.
Anastasía grew up in the small fishing village of Karavomylos in eastern Greece. She was the fourth child in the musical Grivogiannis-Forsberg family, where singing and playing guitar were a natural part of everyday life. Her mother is Swedish, and when Anastasía was eight, the family moved to Sweden. They settled in Angered, a suburb of Gothenburg. Music became an early way for Anastasía to express herself and make sense of the world. She has described how, as a child, she created her own “film soundtracks” for her games, and how she loved and was inspired by the music on Nationalteatern’s children’s album Kåldolmar och Kalsipper.
Her musical journey began to take off during middle school, when she started singing in a choir. After upper-secondary school, she studied at a folk high school specialising in jazz and later continued on the improvisation programme at the University of Gothenburg. At the same time, her identity as an artist developed through an exciting personal journey, many rewarding collaborations and live performances, and an ever-deeper exploration of her own voice.
Anastasía is a member of several bands, including the legendary progg band Nynningen, the psych-pop band Givana, the cover trio Country Efter Jobbet and the Greek folk band Greek Folk Collective, featuring Stefan Missios (Den Stora Vilan), among others. She has continually joined a variety of exciting collaborations and sings, among other things, on Tomma Intet’s genre hit Det Stora Blå and Stefan Sundström’s Farväl Romina. But Anastasía’s work with the trio Country Efter Jobbet has been particularly significant in her choice of debut album. For the past five years, they have regularly performed a much-loved Alf Robertson programme at the often-packed Fyrens Ölkafé in Gothenburg. This has helped them develop a deep, personal connection with Robertson’s songs and lyrics.
Göteborg Sjunger Alf is both a starting point and a tribute. The band recordings were made live over two days in November at Jesper Lindell’s Brunnsvik Sounds Studio, outside Ludvika in Dalarna, and were produced by Björn Pettersson, Jesper Lindell and Rasmus Fors. The musicians made up a real all-star band: Nikke Ström, Pontus Torstensson, Pablo Copa, Stefan Missios, Rasmus Fors and Jesper Lindell. Anastasia interprets the material with great presence and integrity, bringing new life to Robertson’s lyrics.
For Anastasia, music is ultimately about community. She describes the encounter with the audience and with other artists and musicians as something spiritual – a moment when people share feelings and experiences beyond words. Her artistry is marked by honesty, presence and a strong sense of storytelling. With her debut album, Anastasia establishes a strong identity as an artist. At the same time, she becomes, somewhat unexpectedly, a bearer of tradition, developing a Swedish musical treasure for a new generation. She is an artist who carries the legacy forward while also showing the way ahead.
