PUSSY RIOT BRINGS RIOT DAYS TO SWEDEN THIS AUTUMN

Pussy Riot comes to Sweden this autumn with Riot Days, an intense multimedia performance based on Pussy Riot member Maria Alyokhina’s autobiographical book of the same name.

Riot Days moves between live music, spoken word, video and performance art, telling the story of Pussy Riot’s political activism, resistance and the consequences of the group’s high-profile protest at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow in 2012. Following the protest, Alyokhina was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison, an experience that became the starting point for both her book and the performance.

In its new version, Riot Days brings the story into the present day. The performance addresses the oppression of and violence against LGBTQ+ people in Russia, the story of opposition politician Alexei Navalny and Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Through music, documentary material and Alyokhina’s own account, Riot Days becomes both a testimony and an uncompromising portrayal of political resistance in today’s Russia.
