Grunden till vad som i dag är Hellidens Slott lades under mitten av 1800-talet när baron Hans Henrik von Essen påbörjade bygget av en herrgård. Baronens son omvandlade herrgården till slott då han tog över som godsherre några år senare.
Sedan 1950-talet huserar Hellidens Slott en folkhögskola.
