Crime Walks, Västra Nordstan, Göteborg
Skarprättare och vredesmord
Crime history walking tour Gothenburg’s first houses were built in Västra Nordstan in the 17th century, but it was also the site of the city’s first execution ground.
Stora Torget was home to the pillory and the city soldiers, while the executioner and his assistant lived on Kvarnberget until the 18th century. During the wave of emigration in the 19th century, emigrants flocked to Sillgatan, which was also a haunt of swindlers, pickpockets and women of ill repute.
Join a guided tour and hear about executioners, ruffians, murders committed in fits of rage, brothels, false death notices and the head that floated in the harbour.
